Canadian aircraft manufacturer and Canadian military technology company General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada announce a partnership to deliver multi-role aircraft based on the Global 6500 private jet to Canada.

The two Canada-based companies will combine their expertise into the Multi-Mission Aircraft Team of Canada, designing a next-generation platform using interoperable sensors and the experience of General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada, one of the experts at U -Anti-boat technology and airborne reconnaissance, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) solutions.

Bombardier Defense and General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada are working together to provide multi-mission and anti-submarine aircraft that meet Canadian Government requirements for the Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft (CMA) program.

At the heart of the Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft Team’s solution is the Global 6500 business jet, which boasts extended range and proven reliability. The aircraft will be equipped with state-of-the-art General Dynamics integrated mission systems, systems that directly leverage Canada’s investments in newly upgraded CP-140 Block IV and CH-148 Cyclone aircraft.

This field-proven Canadian solution provides the foundation for low-risk, iterative integration of modernized sensors and systems to meet Canada’s mid-century anti-submarine, reconnaissance, surveillance and reconnaissance requirements.

This collaboration between Canada’s largest exporter of business jets and one of Canada’s largest defense companies to develop Canadian multirole aircraft will bring significant benefits to the Pan-Canadian aerospace ecosystem, creating jobs and business opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the country.

As a reminder, General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is supporting the Canadian government on numerous projects, most notably the CP140 Aurora Progressive Modernization Project (PMPA), to maintain the submarine’s anti-aircraft capabilities and extend its operational life into the 2030s.

More details on the Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft Team will be presented at a press conference on May 31, 2023 at the CANSEC exhibition in Ottawa.
