The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have persuaded quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell to lead their offense for the next three seasons.
The Canadian Football League (CFL) club announced on Tuesday that the 32-year-old veteran had signed a new three-year contract.
That means the Montreal Alouettes could face the two-time MVP title (2016 and 2018) three times in the regular season this year.
The Tiger-Cats acquired Mitchell in a trade with the Calgary Stampeders last November.
However, the pivot could have been made a free agent on February 14.
“Bo Levi has an incredible record in the CFL and is a champion,” Tiger-Cats head coach Orlando Steinauer said in a team statement. During our negotiations it became clear that Bo – the man and the soccer player – would be an asset to our organization.”
“I’m excited and honored to have the opportunity to help bring a championship to the amazing Hamilton fans,” Mitchell said. I can’t wait to earn my spot in the dressing room and be a part of what I think can be very special. I can’t wait to get to work.
The Texas native had been a member of the Stampeders since the 2012 season and won the Gray Cup twice with this team. Last year, Mitchell was relegated to a backup role behind quarterback Jake Maier. He was still piling up 2,010 yards through the air and passing nine passes for a major against six interceptions.
For their part, the Tiger-Cats went 8-10 and were beaten 23-16 by the Alouettes in the 2022 Eastern semifinals.
