The Toronto Blue Jays won 7-5 on Sunday to end their three-game streak against the Arizona Diamondbacks at the Rogers Center.
It was the seventh time this season that coach John Schneider’s men brought out the broom. It is also the eighth win in nine games for Canada’s only major league baseball team.

In today’s game, the guests led 2-0 after their first two shots. It should be noted that their successes were due to mistakes made by pitcher Yusei Kikuchi. The “D-Backs” then had a very long attacking deficit series.
Santiago Espinal and Kevin Kiermaier pushed their teammates to the plate in the second half of the second inning, putting everyone back in first place.
Three appearances later, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. gave the Jays the ultimate lead. The recent winner of the home run contest fired a sacrificial flight that allowed Kiermaier to step on the plate.
Other winning points came from Danny Jansen and Daulton Varsho. In the eighth, the two men let their sticks do the talking. Those runs proved very important as the Diamondbacks took advantage of reliever Mitch White’s generosity to come within two short runs in the ninth and final inning.
On the hill, Kikuchi recovered very well from his starting mistakes. The Japanese gave up only two hits and three walks in four and two-thirds of the work. He also had four strikeouts.
The win boosted Jay Jackson’s tally (2-0), while the loss boosted Tommy Henry’s tally (5-2). Erik Swanson was relieved after White’s poor performance and took the opportunity to sign his second save of the season.
“Our substitutes don’t get enough love,” Kiermaier told Sportsnet. […] They are amazing. Pitchers are the backbone of our team. I tell them all the time. We need them to go a long way.”
The Blue Jays will look to continue their success against the San Diego Padres. The California club will play three games in the Queen City. The first duel is scheduled for Tuesday evening.
