SAINT-JÉRÔME – The ball is in the hands of the American Walter Fletcher, then in those of the Canadians Jeshrun Antwi and Sean Thomas Erlington. However, many of them have come to Saint-Jérôme from all over the United States in hopes of shuffling the cards at the Alouettes’ training camp and taking over the starting running back position.

“Even though there is only one starter at this position, I think we encourage each other to form a unit of ball carriers,” commented Montrealer Sean Thomas Erlington on his first day at Alouettes camp on Sunday. Over the years I told myself that I wanted to play for Montreal at some point. I am very happy to be here in my city.”

The departure of William Stanback, now with the British Columbia Lions, obviously favored the arrival of Sean Thomas Erlington, a CFL veteran who had long worn the colors of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
“There is a little pressure, in the sense that I would like and will work hard to be the starter,” admitted the Montrealer. I think we have talent in Canada, running back Antwi and I.”
Everything is possible…
Among the Americans, Stevie Scott III, Marcus Williams Jr. and Charles McClelland are in camp, while Mike Weber Jr. ultimately did not show up in Saint-Jérôme.
Scott III, who turns 24 on Monday, is one who has the talent to shine in the Alouettes’ camp. Just last year, the Syracuse, New York native attended camp with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals before becoming one of the final players to be released.
“Nothing is certain at this position, we could change the relationship,” explained general manager Danny Maciocia. Can we keep the combination of Americans and Canadians? Yes. But if we ever want to change the ratio because we are better as a team and it gives us the flexibility to use our Americans in other positions, we could afford it with Antwi and Sean Thomas Erlington.
“We will be able to answer these questions at the end of the training camp,” explained the managing director. But I repeat: we have excellent American porters in this camp.”
