For the past six years, the Université de Montréal has been a candidate for the renowned competition for Canada’s 100 Best Employers. Again that year, she was selected from many applications across the country to be accepted.

For the period studied, the university was able to excel in various aspects, particularly in relation to sustainable development, equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and support initiatives for employees in relation to mental health and work-life balance.

Sustainable development and EDI at the heart of the mission

In spring 2021, UdeM adopted a Strategic Plan 2021-2023 for Sustainable Development to improve operational and decision-making processes with regard to sustainable development.

In September of the same year, the 1^D National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. For this occasion, several activities were organized on the mountain campus. Her aim was to raise awareness in the university community of the tragic fate of Aboriginal children who were sent to boarding schools between 1870 and 1990 and to initiate a healing process.

As a player in the U7+ Alliance, in October 2021 the university, together with the members of this group, voted for a declaration recognizing the global nature of climate change. This international meeting of higher education leaders aims to structure and strengthen their action on a global scale by taking concrete actions to address the world’s most pressing challenges at regional, national and global levels.

Year-round psychological care

Mental health was the focus of many UdeM initiatives in 2021. In fact, the pandemic has brought its share of challenges and the university has offered many activities and different tools to support its community. We’re thinking of the Everyone Has Stockings campaign or the We Care About Health and Wellbeing program that offers conferences, training and online resources.

Mediacorp’s Top 100 Employers in Canada competition has been running for 22 years. Each year, Canadian employers are recognized for implementing exceptional people management programs and cutting-edge workplace policies. The selection committee evaluates the applications received based on eight criteria that are the same year after year: the physical workplace, the work climate and social fabric, the health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, employee communication, performance management, training and Competence development and social commitment.
