Benoît Marion will have the knife between his teeth

With a Gray Cup berth at stake, the Toronto Argonauts camp is not lacking in motivation for the East Division Finals against the Montreal Alouettes.

However, no one in the Argos is as enthusiastic about the idea of ending the Als season as Benoît Marion.

Drafted by the Alouettes in the third round of the 2020 auction, the Quebecer was released by the Montreal squad during training camp for the 2021 season, then rolled up his sleeves and waited for another chance.

This came from the Argonauts a few months later and Marion played three games that year. His bosses have rewarded his determination and tenacity by offering him a contract for this campaign. Since then, Marion has played on all of the Queen City club’s special teams and is part of the defensive line rotation.

“We are ready to go to war against the Alouettes and we are excited. It’s also the best possible scenario for me,” he said days before the final game of the season in the Canadian Football League East.

“They know they made a mistake. [en me libérant]. There are several players and even coaches who have told me that. I will never fail to say that they made a mistake. My goal is to remind them every time I step on the pitch.”

“To have the chance to get my Gray Cup ticket against this team is very special.”

No friends in the field

After the Alouettes won the Eastern semifinals, it wasn’t long before Marion and her former teammates wrote to each other and started “trash talk.”

This is obviously done with love, because the representative of the Argonauts considers many players of the “sparrows” as friends. That’s especially true of his former defensive partners Marc-Antoine Dequoy, Brian Harelimana and Emmanuel Kerfalla Exumé at the University of Montreal Carabins.

“I really enjoy playing on special teams because I play against a lot of guys that I know very well. I love meeting them and asserting myself,” said the Québec-born metropolis with a smile in his voice.

“That’s the beauty of football. You can be friends with the guys on the other side and have a lot of respect for each other. But on the field, I want to remind them that I’m dominating them, that I’m faster and that I’ll always be in their face.

“I train with a lot of them in Montreal during the off-season. I’ll remind them with glee that we eliminated them,” Marion added confidently.
