Barré-Boulet and Roy dominate in the Rocket’s local opening game

Alex Barré-Boulet played like a forward with something to prove in the Laval Rocket’s home game against the Syracuse Crunch at Place Bell on Friday night.

After being claimed off waivers by the Montreal Canadiens after two games, Barré-Boulet went unclaimed and landed in the American League.

Perhaps because he doesn’t want to stay in the AHL forever, the Montmagny native was brilliant against the Crunch, scoring two goals and two assists in his team’s 5-2 win.

Barré-Boulet was dominant on the power play with Joshua Roy and contributed to his Quebec pal’s two goals in similar circumstances.

Roy’s second goal was particularly spectacular. The Beauceron sent a laser into the top area that gave goalkeeper Matt Tomkins no chance. In front of the Rocket cage, Jakub Dobes stopped 25 pucks and remained undefeated in two starts.

Roy also got an assist and finished the night with three points. Number 10 was suspended in the Rocket’s first two games of the season and had a -3 differential. He opened up in a beautiful way.

If we forget the points for a moment to focus on the fists, Vincent Arseneau’s tough fight in the first period caught the attention. The tough Rocket guy broke a finger while grabbing his opponent’s helmet. Finger that he replaced himself, simply after the fact.

The Laval Rocket will once again host Joël Bouchard’s Crunch on Saturday for a second game in two nights.
