Back to school for the Montreal Canadiens

In a sign that the wait is over before the start of the NHL season: The Montreal Canadiens will hold their annual golf tournament in Laval-sur-le-Lac on Monday. Radio-Canada Sports will be on site a month before the opening of the 2023-2024 calendar to collect impressions from players and coaches.

The golf tournament is the first of several stops for the Habs leading up to the opening game against the Maple Leafs in Toronto. Specifically, the team will hold its rookie camp starting Wednesday. Around 27 players will take part, including the team’s first pick in the last draft, Austrian defenseman David Reinbacher.

Next up is the rookie tournament in Buffalo on Friday. The Canadiens’ rookies will face those from the Sabres, Ottawa Senators, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins.

CH’s first preseason game is September 25th at the Bell Center against the Devils.

During the 2022 edition of the golf tournament, the Canadian notably announced the appointment of Nick Suzuki as team captain and, incidentally, the addition of the Royal Bank of Canada logo to the tricolor.

This year we should learn who will replace Joel Edmundson, who left for the Washington Capitals in July, as Nick Suzuki’s assistant. Brendan Gallagher is the other player who wore this HAS on his jersey last season.

In the 2022-2023 season, the Canadian had a record of 31-45-6, ranking 28th in the NHL. He missed the playoffs for the second straight year.

You can follow all back-to-school developments on the various Radio-Canada Sports platforms.
