Air quality in the Ottawa, Gatineau and Cornwall regions will remain poor through Saturday, according to Environment Canada’s latest special bulletin Friday morning. Smoke from wildfires still raging in Quebec continues to affect certain outdoor activities.
For these three cities, the authority forecasts an Air Quality Health Index of 7, which corresponds to a high risk.
On Saturday, however, the index is expected to drop to 6, implying a moderate health risk, before eventually rising to 4 in the evening.
Remember that the Air Quality Health Index scale runs from 1 to 10, with 1 representing the lowest risk and 10 representing the highest risk.
Authorities are again recommending measures to reduce smoke exposure, especially for people with heart or lung conditions.
Stop or reduce your activity if you have trouble breathing or if you or someone you care for is unwell
writes Environment Canada in its special bulletin.
On Thursday, the city of Gatineau suspended its outdoor activities and services until further notice, in accordance with city government guidance CNESST
.These closures concern:
-
rental centers in outdoor centers;
-
outdoor pools;
-
outdoor recreational and cultural activities;
-

-
Activities on urban outdoor sports fields.
