Air Canada admits violating accessibility rules

Rodney Hodgins, a Prince George resident, says he used his upper body strength to pull himself up the front aisle of the plane in August while his wife Deanna held his hands and legs while third airline ground crew was unavailable to assist him to help .

The case has attracted national and international attention. Federal Transport Minister Pablo Rodriguez told the House of Commons this week he was “appalled” by the way Mr Hodgins had been treated.

Friday on social network, Kamal Khera.

“The company must present a plan to remedy this situation. Canadians expect Air Canada to do better. Much better,” he wrote.

Beenish Awan, special assistant at Air Canada, sent a letter to Deanna Hodgins this week admitting it was “a very embarrassing and humiliating experience for both of you.”

Based on the information currently available, the airline “regrettably has to admit” that it violated regulations regarding people with disabilities, Beenish Awan said.

Hodgins says she and her husband continue to push for improvements in how we treat travelers with disabilities, including quicker assistance for people who need help getting on and off a plane.
