After the lawsuit against Florida, Disney World is being sued by the state

The members of the new Central Florida Tourism Regulatory Districtall nominated by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, voted unanimously to sue Disney in Orlando state court.

They also voted to defend themselves in federal court in Tallahassee, where the entertainment multinational filed a lawsuit against the Florida governor last Wednesday. Disney believes the Republican governor may have retaliated against the Florida law titled ” don’t say gay “.

In its lawsuit against Mr. DeSantis and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, Disney is asking a judge to reverse the governor’s takeover of the large theme park district, which Disney controlled for 55 years.

Disney filed a lawsuit last week Central Florida Tourism Regulatory District voted to terminate an agreement that gave the company authority over design and construction decisions on its expansive properties near Orlando.

A constant conflict

The Disney lawsuit was the latest salvo in a more than year-long feud between Disney and Gov. DeSantis, who is preparing to enter the Republican primary ahead of the upcoming U.S. presidential election.

The row began last year after Disney, under considerable pressure, publicly opposed a Florida state law that bans teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity in early elementary school, a policy critics have dubbed ” don’t say gay » [Ne prononcez pas le mot gai].

In retaliation, Mr. DeSantis regained control of Disney World’s self-governing district and appointed a new board of directors to oversee community services at sprawling theme parks near Orlando.

But before the new board arrived, Disney pushed through a last-minute deal that stripped the new bosses of much of their authority.
