Adam Svensson will fight for the title

Canada’s Adam Svensson seems so comfortable on the Californian greens that he moved into the top five after three rounds at Saturday’s Fortinet Championship.

Svensson (67) had no moments of frustration during the day. His three consecutive birdies between the eighth and tenth pennants put him at the top of the standings.

With 206 strokes (-10) since hostilities began, he ranks fifth with Americans Davis Thompson, Paul Haley II and Matt Kuchar.

Uncle Sam’s country rep Justin Lower retook the lead of the field with a round of 69, taking him to -13.

The defending champion of the tournament, Max Homa, and the Englishman Danny Willett gave up the competition and could not do better than normal (72nd). They will still be at the top of the final round, holders of a -12 cumulative card.

Canadian golfers Nick Taylor (67) and Mackenzie Hughes (68) had some of their best moments of the tournament when they found themselves side by side in 17th place with -7.

Meanwhile, Taylor Pendrith (71) dropped to 52nd place.

Corey Conners and Michael Gligic, the other Maple Leaf representatives, had not escaped the axe.

Brooke M. Henderson in an interesting position in Portland

On the LPGA side, Canadian golfer Brooke M. Henderson will have work to do to take top honors at the Amazingcre Classic, but she can still aim for a top five finish after scoring 69 (-3) in Portland has played.

Henderson had three birdies in the first nine but struggled more in the second half. His missteps on the 10th and 17th pins nullified his successes on the 13th and final hole.

The Ontarian stayed level on points with the South Korean Narin An (67) with -9 in 14th place.

Henderson is four shots behind the lead going into the final loop. She’s only three strokes behind the top-5.

Very clever who can predict the outcome of the competition as 13 golfers at the head of the peloton are separated by three shots and three athletes share the lead. The Americans Andrea Lee (67) and Lilia Vu (69) and the Japanese Ayaka Furue (67) each score -13 points.

Alena Sharp, the only other Canadian to evade the ax, delivered a second straight card of 72 (N). A double bogey on the 17th pennant didn’t really help the one who ranks the 38th level at -4.
