Whether in sports or on a special occasion, we have all felt the need to prepare or practice in order to reach a certain level in what we need to achieve when the time comes.
However, this does not appear to be the case Samuel Montembeaultwhich seems almost impossible to solve in front of the Montreal Canadiens net. Of course there were the preparatory games, but you get the idea: he’s on fire!
Or to put it another way: He is like a wall in front of the Habs’ gates.
But could these appearances just be a flash in the pan? Or if not, can we expect them to continue into the season? Patrick Frioletjournalist from RDSspoke about the topic on air BPM Sports and shared his opinion about it.
A fantastic start
Last night’s game against the Ottawa Senators was a great game for many, including the top offense of Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovský and Nick Suzuki. Then there is also Lane Hutsonwith his phenomenal vision finishing the evening with 2 assists including an onEmil Heinemann.
Despite all this, Montembeault was once again solid, stopping 24 of the 25 shots aimed at him, with only Tim Stützle’s perfect shot deceiving his guard.
- Last year, he started the season with two straight losses and scored a total of eight goals in those two games, for a .880% average. On the other hand, the Bécancour-born goalkeeper was by no means the only culprit.
- This year, his season begins with two straight wins while allowing just one goal on 73 shots, a phenomenal .986% average.
But can we expect such strong performances from Montembeault all year round?
“It’s not a flash in the pan”
Patrick Friolet this question was asked on the airwaves of BPM Sportsand according to the journalist who follows the Montreal Canadiens on their adventures, we can expect a solid goaltender in front of the Habs cage in Samuel Montembeault this season.
We know that Samuel has been working on a neurological level this summer. He did exercises and worked closely with a specialist to improve his well-being in his environment, sense his imbalance (…) and maintain his orientation. At this level, Montembeault is becoming more and more comfortable with his discomfort, which allows him to find the puck quicker during games (…).
He shows us that this isn’t a flash in the pan and that he can be consistent this year. He will have ups and downs, but he shows that his summer preparation has been exemplary.
