The Montreal Canadiens face a $1.17 million fine in the 2023-2024 season.
That’s whatrevealed Hart Levine, Puck Pedia’s payroll expert and database manager.
We need to subtract that amount from the $82.5 million payroll the Habs would normally have.
This penalty is linked to the performance bonuses of four players currently completing their three-year entry contracts with the National Hockey League, namely Kaiden Guhle, Cole Caufield, Sean Farrell and Jordan Harris.
If a team uses the long-term injury list, the performance bonuses received by players who expire their entry contract must be counted as a penalty on the following season’s payroll. This was evidently the case for the Canadians, who have been plagued by injuries of a kind we have seldom seen.
Here are the details of each bonus received as provided by Levine on TVASports.ca.
