The Canadiens organization did a great job for forward Alex Belzile by nominating him for the Bill-Masterton Trophy, an award that recognizes his endurance, sportsmanship and dedication to the sport of hockey.
Belzile made the National League this season at the age of 31 after several seasons in the QMJHL, ECHL and American League. The Quebecer has never stopped improving over the years and has been able to show an open mind to add tools to his trunk.
He reaped the rewards in 2022-2023.
Former NHLer Philippe Boucher, who knew him a few years ago from his time with the Rimouski Oceanic, said on Monday on “JiC” that he was “so happy for him”.
“He was a dominant player at junior level, but no one could have predicted that a dozen years later he would end up in the National League,” he added.
“The Bill-Masterton, I was called out once in my career after multiple injuries,” Boucher said. I really appreciated the gesture of the organization, I can imagine how Alex and his whole family feel today because there are many people around him who have helped him, motivated him and convinced him never to let go.”
During his speech, the situation of the Laval Rocket as well as the QMJHL playoffs were also discussed.
