The new evacuation order issued on Sunday is aimed at pregnant women, babies under a year old and their parents, and people with chronic illnesses.
One hundred people would have to be evacuated, according to the estimate by community leader Jean-Claude Mequish on Sunday.
The departure of the evacuees is scheduled for Monday at 10 a.m. They are being cared for by Opitciwan’s health and social services team and the Red Cross, the Atikamekw Council explains in a press release published on social networks.
This is the second evacuation order in a few days for this Aboriginal community northwest of La Tuque.
Around 150 people at risk had to leave the community on Friday due to the smoke from the forest fires. They are accommodated in three hotels in Saguenay.
The exact location where the new evacuees would be taken was not clear as early as Sunday evening.
Due to the current occupancy of the hotels in the municipality, other locations are currently being examined in addition to Saguenay.
Ten days ago, members of the community had to be evacuated twice to Mashteuiatsh and Roberval due to forest fires.
