Roxanne Larose, a Lévis student involved in charitable causes, is competing in the final leg of the Miss Canada 2023 pageant and is one of the 16 finalists in the personality pageant that ends May 21 in Montreal.

Roxanne Larose took part in this competition in January, where participants are judged on their physical beauty, intelligence, elegance, confidence and commitment to the community.

“The crisis in the mid-1930s somehow got me. I told myself I had to do something, it was really on a whim. I hadn’t told anyone about it, I had kept a file of all my experiences. I sent this not thinking I would be selected, it destabilized me when I was selected among the finalists in February. I was panicking and having Impostor Syndrome at the same time. Mainly because a lot of them were models and have competed before and I’m a full time student I went back to school at 30 with a kid so I was wondering why me? But afterwards I said to myself why not, I’ll do everything I can,” explained the student who wants to study medicine.

A remarkable commitment to the community

A very important aspect of the competition is participation in charitable and non-profit activities, an aspect in which Lévisienne excels.

“I had a good background in volunteering. In the past I have volunteered to tutor struggling high school student-athletes, trained with the Canadian Red Cross to respond to local emergencies, volunteered to found the CHU de Québec, the Bal des Grandsromantes, the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie, also a volunteer clown for sick kids, a volunteer Santa Claus, in short, as soon as I can volunteer, I’ll do it,” said the Miss Canada finalist.

Despite her busy schedule, Roxanne Larose is even more committed to these kinds of causes. In this context, Lévisienne has already planned an event for April 27th.

“I’m using Miss Canada’s presentation to get involved with more causes. For example, I will spend an evening at Bar le Chivas in Saint-Jean-Chrysostome as a volunteer waitress and all tips will go to Opération Enfant Soleil. These are new activities that I have not done before, but I have always been committed to causes close to my heart. I’m not doing it for Miss Canada and I won’t stop after Miss Canada,” argued the Lévisienne.

Looking for sponsors

Roxanne Larose invites local causes or businesses to get in touch with her so she can continue to get involved as she plans to organize more events up until May 21st.

“I have already written to many organizations like Projet Intervention Prostitution Québec to do other volunteer activities. I don’t need money for sponsors. But as long as I wear a prom dress on TV during the gala in May, I’d sure like to sponsor a small business from here that could lend me a dress to do them a nice commercial,” concluded the woman from Saint-Jean- Chrysostom.
