Last February, Mauritian Brian Racoude honored the country with a performance Catch and release during the show The Voice Canada. If our compatriot was not selected, he has no intention of giving up music.

Tell us about your journey into music?
It was my parents who inspired my desire to make music when they gave me a keyboard for my ninth birthday. I then attended the François Mitterrand Conservatory, where I learned to play other instruments such as the piano and guitar. I also shot my first scenes at concerts and other festivals with friends from the conservatory. During my musical career, I also worked as a music teacher.
Why did you emigrate to Canada?
I had the opportunity to immigrate to Quebec and that’s how I ended up on The Voice Canada.
Why did you decide to perform the song Catch & Release by Matt Simon?
It’s a song that really touches me, so I chose it to feel more in my element.
Why do you think the judges unfortunately did not change their minds?
I think he expected more from me. It could also be because my voice was a bit strained.
How do you see your musical future?
I plan to take audio engineering courses and continue in this field.
Is an album possible?
Not at the moment. But I am working on a cover and a song of my own composition.
