Jeff Petry had a great performance Friday night by playing the 900th game of his National League career, but his Detroit Red Wings lost 4-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena.
The American defender played the vast majority of his games in the Montreal Canadiens jersey, i.e. 508 duels. He also wore the jerseys of the Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins during his 14-year career.

However, Petry was unable to help his team to their fourth win in a row against the “Canes”. He received a penalty for tripping Stefan Noesen midway through the third period, and Andrei Svechnikov needed just 31 seconds to score the game-winning goal on the ensuing power play.
The local favorites controlled this game, giving the Wings the lead for just 47 seconds in the first period. Klim Kostin broke the ice and Jordan Martinook reacted quickly.
Goalkeeper Antti Raanta had a very quiet night at work, only having to take 12 shots. Martin Necas and Sebastian Aho also scored for Carolina.
The Devils are too strong in second place
In Columbus, the New Jersey Devils scored all of their goals in the second period of their 4-1 victory over the Blue Jackets and were able to get back on the road to success after two defeats.
Lindy Ruff's men played for the first time since their 3-2 loss to the Canadians on Wednesday. The team's performance was more convincing against an opponent the Devils love to torment. New Jersey picked up its third win in four games against the Jackets this season.
John Marino, Alexander Holtz, Nico Hischier and Nathan Bastian took turns beating Elvis Merzlikins in the second third.
Only Cole Sillinger could beat Vitek Vanecek. The Czech made 28 saves.
