A long-time CH scout leaves the ship

Montreal Canadiens’ professional western scout Reid Simpson has left the organization to take a more prominent position with another team in the National Hockey League (NHL).

The Montreal organization confirmed this news to QMI Agency. The former striker had been with CH since the 2016-2017 season, which made him one of the most experienced scouts on the team, along with department head Eric Crawford.

In recent years, Simpson’s expertise and intelligence have allowed the Blue-Blanc-Rouge to make deals with teams in the West, including major trades like the one that sent Max Pacioretty to the Vegas Golden Knights for Nick Suzuki and Tomas Tatar, or those that brought Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook to Quebec City.

The 55-year-old played more than 300 games in the National League, including 25 with the Canadiens in the 2001-2002 season. A solid fighter, the Manitoban looked back on a long professional career that spanned from 1989 to 2010.

Simpson’s next destination is currently unknown.

Crawford, Vincent Riendeau, Teddy Purcell, Gordon Clark and Neil Little are the other professional scouts still employed by CH.
