The Arizona Coyotes emerged victorious in a duel against another Bettman Circuit laughter, the Anaheim Ducks, at Mullett Arena on Saturday.
Barrett Hayton delivered the “Yotes” in overtime. He showed patience before demystifying Olle Eriksson Ek with a precise shot to make it 5-4.
The Swedish goalkeeper also played his first game at the Bettman Circuit. He made 34 saves in the loss.
Thanks, or rather because of that win, the Coyotes overtook the Montreal Canadiens overall in the National Hockey League a month before the lottery for the draft.
With that, the desert team ended their dry spell of nine games without a win. The Ducks have extended their ordeal to 10 games.
Christian Fischer, Lawson Crouse, Clayton Keller scored the first goals for the Coyotes. Then, after watching Max Jones put the Ducks ahead, rookie Matias Maccelli forced overtime with 35 seconds left.
Adam Henrique scored twice in the loss to hit 20 goals for the sixth time in his career. Ryan Strome also blacked out the score sheet.
The Panthers don’t give up
CH fans also had the Washington Capitals’ duel against the Florida Panthers in their sights. They won 4-2 thanks to a late goal from Matthew Tkachuk.
Paul Maurice’s team has thus come closer to participating in the playoffs. They have a one point lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Your next pick for the first round is the Habs.
The eldest of the Tkachuk brothers took advantage of a risky outing by Charlie Lindgren to thread the needle for his 40th time of the season with exactly one minute remaining.
Among the Panthers’ members, only Carter Verhaeghe, author of his 41st net of Saturday’s campaign, has more goals on the bench.
Aaron Ekblad and Sam Reinhart also shouldered the wheel in an empty net to lead the Florida team to a sixth straight win.
Dylan Strome and Tom Wilson flickered the red light in a lost cause. The Caps’ last win dates back to March 23, against the poor Chicago Blackhawks.
Sorokin muzzles the airmen
At the UBS Arena, Ilya Sorokin’s 27 shot perfected the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Islanders pulled off a big 4-0 win.
The “Isles” follow the Panthers among the drafted teams, just ahead of the Penguins and the Buffalo Sabers.
Quebec’s Samuel Bolduc scored his second career goal with the win. Scott Mayfield and Brock Nelson also eluded Carter Hart, who was knocked out of the game after two periods. Hudson Fasching completed the brand.
