A Canadian is arrested after the death of a British Columbian in Mexico

Mexican prosecutors did not release the name of the victim or the person arrested.

According to his family, it is Kiara Agnew23 years old, from gypsum rockNew Brunswick, who moved to Dawson CreekBritish Columbia, as a teenager.

In a Twitter post on Friday, local law enforcement said a woman showing signs of abuse was found dead at a Playa del Carmen hotel and arrested by police a person of foreign origin for a possible murder of a woman.

Global Affairs Canada confirms one Canadian citizen has died in Mexico and another is in custody. Ottawa also notes that consular agents support families.

According to Katlyn Levesque, the young woman’s aunt, Kiara Agnew would be 24 years old on March 11th.

She says she really wanted to celebrate her birthday in Mexico with her boyfriend. She talked about going snorkeling, visiting ruins and beaches.

The aunt says she last spoke to her niece last Thursday.

She adds that the family is awaiting the results of an autopsy to know the exact cause of death.

Katlyn Levesque points out that her niece has always loved to travel and had a passion for animals.

She says Kiara’s death is a real tragedy for everyone involved.
