“Unfortunately, I can confirm that the two missing Canadian Forces personnel were found dead by search teams,” Anita Anand said at a news conference.
The CH-147F Chinook carrying four members of the 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron crashed early Tuesday morning during a training flight in the Ottawa River near Garrison Petawawa, Ontario.
“It was normal, regular night training”
The other two crew members were quickly found and hospitalized. They have since been released after their minor injuries were treated.
“It was a normal and regular night practice,” said Major General Sylvain Ménard.
About 50 Canadian Forces personnel, with the help of police and fire teams, conducted searches on the banks and in the Ottawa River.
According to the Royal Canadian Air Force, the CH-147F Chinook is a multi-role helicopter used to transport equipment and personnel for domestic and international operations.
This model was used in floods and fires in Canada and in Mali in support of a UN security mission.
