Global Affairs Canada has confirmed the death of a Canadian citizen in Germany after police in Kempten County said a woman died after being pushed down a hill by an American tourist.

Information about the incident, at the same time adding that the consular authorities are ready to help the family.

Global Affairs did not directly confirm his identity.

Foreign media reports identify Eva Liu as an American who grew up in Naperville, Illinois, but a Facebook profile apparently owned by the young woman indicates she is from Waterloo, Ontario.

German police said they received a call on the afternoon of June 14 about two injured people who were found 50 meters below a lookout near the Marienbrücke bridge overlooking Neuschwanstein Castle.

According to investigators, a 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman encountered a 30-year-old American tourist on the hiking trail before he attacked them and pushed them one by one down the hill.

The 22-year-old survived the fall, according to police, but her friend, believed to be Eva Liu, later died in hospital. The man has been charged with murder and investigators say they are looking into the possibility of sexual assault.
