Before his surprise exit a week before the grand finale of Survivor Quebec, Jean Junior Morin, or JJ for the show’s lucky castaways, had the wind in his sails when he was arguably the most polarizing character of this first Quebec installment of the popular reality series Show.
JJ dominated the physical tests and was (in his words) at the forefront of the alliance in control from end to end of the game. He thought he was going to the last tribal council before his name appeared on the voting papers of his followers.
With three votes he was expelled from the island and just missed the top 5.
At 41, the Victoriaville aluminum smelter operator had been out of the limelight for some time, his hockey career having found no echo after his few seasons in the senior leagues between 2005 and 2013.
In fact, Jean Junior has often mentioned his hockey career on the air. But what exactly was this job?
We dug.
JJ played for four teams in the QMJHL from 1997 to 2002: Sherbrooke, Rouyn-Noranda (1 game only), Baie-Comeau and Hull to end his years as a junior.
He then attended the UQTR program at the University of Quebec for three seasons between 2002 and 2005. The center averaged more than a point per game in college with 26, 31, and 28 points. The shorter seasons have been good for him.
The pro leagues after school weren’t always kind to JJ
He played his best seasons between 2006 and 2008 with Pont-Rouge of the Quebec Central Senior AAA Hockey League.
According to statistics available on the InternetHis last shots in a professional league came in 2013 with Pavage 132 de Nicolet of the Mauritian Senior A Hockey League.
In short, Jean Junior didn’t risk everything, even if he spent half his life on an ice rink.
And the Canadian in all this?
In many episodes, JJ mentioned to players that he attended Montreal Canadiens camp and didn’t sugarcoat the truth at all.
