A resident of Saint-Lazare will receive a $2,000 stipend

The Aléo Foundation and the Montreal Canadiens have partnered to award $54,000 in scholarships to 27 elite hockey players and athletes who have excelled in the past year. Among them we find Olivier Groulx, 15 years old from Saint-Lazare, who plays with the Grenadiers de Châteauguay.

The forward, a $2,000 scholarship winner, won the bronze medal with Team Quebec at the Canada Games on Prince Edward Island in February 2023. He is considered the 24th pick for the next QMJHL draft.

He is currently attending the 4th secondary level of the Sport-Etudes program at the Louis-Philippe-Paré-Gymnasium. Olivier wants to be a physiotherapist. He wants to secure his place in the QMJHL in 2024-2024 and win a championship with the team he will play with.

The Montreal Canadiens Bursary Program, now in its 16th edition, supports the best aspiring ice hockey players and is administered by the Aléo Foundation, formerly known as the Quebec Athlete Excellence Foundation (FAEQ), in partnership with Hockey Quebec, the province of Quebec M18 AAA Hockey Development League (LHM18AAAQ) and the Quebec Student Sports Network (RSEQ).

The Montreal Canadiens organization is proud to partner with the Aléo Foundation. Our commitment demonstrates how important it is to us to highlight the endurance and achievements of the next generation of hockey players. We hope that the support we give to these athletes who shine among the elite of our sport will enable them to fulfill their ambitions and achieve their dreams. says Geneviève Paquette, Vice President, Community Engagement, Club de Hockey Canadien.

The 27 winners, aged between 15 and 17, were selected based on both their athletic and academic achievements. In order to promote the preparation of student athletes after their sports career, the pursuit of a degree remains one of the most important selection criteria.
