Owen Beck, junior for the Petes and Montreal Canadiens, took control of the Ontario Junior League (OHL) finals series in Peterborough on Monday by beating the London Knights 6-5 in overtime.
It’s the second straight win for the Petes, who lead the series 2-1. They obviously needed Beck’s wake-up call as he picked up his first two points against the Knights.
Late in the first period, the 19-year-old center shot the puck out from behind the London goal. The disk went behind Zach Bowen’s pad.
The second-round pick in the 2022 draft added an assist in the net by JR Avon shortly after returning from the dressing room. Chase Stillman scored a brace for the Petes and Tucker Robertson equalized in overtime.
On Saturday, Beck was kicked out of Game 2 for hitting Denver forward Barkey in the head. The young man was ultimately not suspended.
Another Canadian youth player, defender Logan Mailloux, contributed an assist in the loss.
The series continues in Peterborough on Wednesday.
