Jordan Harris is a candidate for the King Clancy Trophy

Defenseman Jordan Harris is the Montreal Canadiens’ representative in the running for the King-Clancy Trophy, an award that recognizes the community’s commitment to the National Hockey League (NHL) this season.

The Bettman Circuit on Wednesday afternoon revealed the identities of the 32 candidates selected by their respective teams and in contention for the trophy won last year by PK Subban (New Jersey Devils), who is now retired.

Harris will notably be associated with Boston Bruins captain and winner of this award in 2012-2013, Patrice Bergeron, forwards Brady Tkachuk (Ottawa Senators), Elias Pettersson (Vancouver Canucks), Aleksander Barkov (Florida Panthers), Jack Hughes ( Devils) and Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh Penguins), as well as defensemen Morgan Rielly (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Victor Hedman (Tampa Bay Lightning). Alex Tuch (Buffalo Sabres), Tom Wilson (Washington Capitals) and Dylan Larkin (Detroit Red Wings) are other household names selected.

In 2021-2022 goaltender Jake Allen was the Habs player in contention for this award, which rewards leadership on and off the ice.

The recipient will receive an amount of US$25,000 to donate to an organization of their choice. The two finalists will each receive $5,000. A committee led by Commissioner Gary Bettman and his deputy Bill Daly will later determine the identity of the winner.

The King Clancy has been awarded since 1989. Raymond Bourque, Vincent Lecavalier, Kevin Lowe and Bergeron are the Quebecers who have bagged him already. Saku Koivu is the Canadian’s only color bearer in 2006-2007 to be given the honor.
