Lottery: surprising statement by Adam Fantilli

A few hours before the lottery that will determine which teams will pick first and second in the next National Hockey League (NHL) draft, Adam Fantilli made a surprising statement, to say the least.

Those who are likely to hear his name second only to Connor Bedard will not be watching the event live.

As a member of the Canadian team that will take part in the Ice Hockey World Championship on Friday, Fantilli is currently in Budapest and will be asleep when the results of this famous lottery are announced. The Maple Leaf meets Hungary in a show duel on Tuesday.

The top prospect told The Athletic reporter Ian Mendes that he would not raise an alarm to work with fans to find out the identity of the team at high risk of claiming second place.

Fantilli has 65 points, including 30 goals, in 36 games with the University of Michigan Wolverines this year.
