The Montreal Canadiens will be very well represented at the World Championships taking place May 12-28 in Finland and Latvia. On Sunday, Joel Armia added his name to the list of participating Habs.
The Finnish side will rely on the services of the 29-year-old winger as they attempt to win their fifth title and second in a row. Last year they beat Canada 4-3 in overtime in the Grand Final.
Armia isn’t the only National Hockey League player on their roster. Colorado Avalanche star Mikko Rantanen will do whatever it takes to help his Avalanche triumph on home soil.
Defender Olli Maatta and attackers Kaapo Kakko and Kasperi Kapanen are the other representatives of the Bettman Circuit with Finland.
Armia has accumulated 14 points in each of its last three campaigns. In 2022-2023 he scored seven goals in 43 games and was plagued by multiple health issues.
There are two seasons left in the four-campaign pact signed by Armia in 2021. He earns an average annual salary of $3.4 million as part of the contract.
Goalkeeper Samuel Montembeault and defender Justin Barron will wear Canada’s colors at the World Cup. For their part, young Lane Hutson, Sean Farrell and Luke Tuch will progress with the United States.
