Corey Perry has built his career in the National Hockey League (NHL) well in recent seasons, but he now finds himself without a valid contract for 2023-2024.
The man, who made a brief but memorable stint with the Montreal Canadiens two years ago, is hoping to continue playing in the NHL. He’ll be 38 in two weeks and admits he doesn’t have much left, but the flame still burns inside him.
“I still have it in me. I still want to play, he told reporter Chris Krenn on Tuesday. We’ll see where it goes over the next few weeks and we’ll make a plan there.”
It’s the first time since 2019 that Perry hasn’t reached the Stanley Cup Finals. He wore the uniforms of the Dallas Stars, Canadiens, and Tampa Bay Lightning, respectively, but was not part of a winning team. However, the Ontarian, best known for his long stint with the Anaheim Ducks, had won the trophy in 2007.
The right winger proved that he still has gas in the tank with five points in six playoff games against the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the regular season, he accumulated just 25 points on top of a -28 difference, the worst of his career.
A well-known agitator, Perry has seemed all the more vocal in recent months, frustrating his opponents and opposing supporters. He also spent 95 minutes in the box, a best for him since 2012.
