Among other things, Manitoba promises to reintroduce a program that awards medical students $12,000 in scholarships for each of their four years of study.Upon graduation, these students must complete six months of service in an underserved area of the province for each scholarship received.
This program will also provide grants for physicians relocating to Manitoba after graduation. Wab Kinev adds that a new-democratic government will reinstate the fund and double the amounts allocated to it.
A similar scholarship and grant program was abolished by the Pallister administration in 2017.
Better conditions for medical staff
Vab Kinev has also promised to reach a new agreement with the Manitoba Association of Health Care Professionals, representing approximately 7,000 paramedics, emergency responders, respiratory therapists, laboratory technicians and other allied health professionals.
After five years without a new contract, members of this union voted 99% in favor of a strike mandate last month.

also promises to offer competitive contracts and financial incentives for people working in rural communities to maintain emergency units and facilitate employee retention in the sector.Wab Kinew also plans to improve cellular service in rural communities to prevent emergency calls from being dropped. He also wants health centers to be better equipped with technology to reduce patient transfers.
He intends to add beds in long-term care homes to allow seniors to age locally or in their community.
The Progressive Conservative Party responded to Wab Kinev’s comments by saying that the NDP
