One set is enough for the Blue Jays

The Blue Jays scored four runs in the fourth inning to lead Toronto to a 5-2 win over the Chicago White Sox at the Rogers Center on Monday night.

It was Whit Merrifield who opened the scoring for the Jays during that famous inning. The outfielder hit a double that allowed Alejandro Kirk to complete a lap on the trails. Moments later, Cavan Biggio hit a three-run homer. It was the second time he stretched his arms this season.

The other success of Canada’s only major league baseball team was the work of Matt Chapman. In the seventh, he hit a double that sent Vladimir Guerrero Jr. home.

On the mound, Chris Bassitt (3-2) gave up the two carries, three hits and three free assists. He also passed four rivals in the glove in six and a third inning. Jordan Romano made his eighth save of the campaign.

The Blue Jays and White Sox meet for the second of a three-game series in Queen City on Tuesday night.

Guardians dominated

Unable to win at bat, the Cleveland Guardians were shut out 6-0 by the Colorado Rockies in the progressive.

The crowd favorite managed just four goals against a side bobbing in the slums of the National League table. Gunner Austin Gomber (1-4) took the opportunity to sign his first win of 2023.

The 29-year-old left-hander gave up three strikes from safe position and as many walks in five innings of work.

At bat, the Rockies opened the scoring through Jurickson Profar. The latter hit a solo home run in the first heat. The outfielder also allowed teammates Brenton Doyle and Ezequiel Tovar to hit the plate in fourth.

The loss landed on the record of Ca Quantrill (1-2), who gave up five runs at eight hits in three and a third innings on the mound.
