Earth Day is a celebration that has been going on for 53 years. Established in 1970, this day was created by an American Senator, John McConnell, who wanted to use it to emphasize the importance of the environment. One thing leads to another, this day has become a planetary event. “It is truly a celebration designed to highlight our love for the earth, which brings us so much,” Earth Day Canada Director-General Valérie Mallamo said in an interview with the Bulletin. Noovo Le Fil weekendhosted by Meeker Warrior.

This day is important to both celebrate our majestic planet and to remind us that several actions can be taken to do our part.
Here is a list of things every citizen can do to contribute to a healthy planet, according to Valérie Mallamo:
- Prioritize sustainable mobility: Walk or take public transport before turning to the petrol-powered car.
- Favor foods that don’t have too much of an impact on the environment: eat local, reduce meat, eat more vegetables, etc.
- Rethink your consumption: Ask yourself, “Do I still need it” or “Can I fix it?”
- avoid waste
- Take care of your recycling
- Support organizations in the fight against climate change
However, Ms Mallamo argues that the most urgent need is to mobilize as a society. “We have to make systemic gestures, but that is the government’s role. I therefore invite citizens to demand concrete changes in society from elected officials.”
