Nations Cup in Cycling | Lauriane Genest and Kelsey Mitchell go straight to eighth place

(Milton) Lauriane Genest and Kelsey Mitchell didn’t seem to miss out in qualifying for the individual sprint for the Cycling Nations’ Cup on Saturday. The two Canadians placed in the above 4 and avoided the second phase of qualifying, which was scheduled for later in the day.

Genest achieved the reference time in 10.482 seconds. Mitchell stopped for the fourth and final time to avoid the 16Are Final, so 10,756.

Colombian Martha Bayona Pineda (10.640), bronze medalist in the discipline at the Milton stage last year, and Germany’s Alessa-Catriona Pröpster (10.709) placed themselves between the two Maple Leaf representatives.

Genest and Mitchell, along with Sarah Orban, helped Canada to a silver medal in the team sprint on Friday night. It didn’t show in her morning performances. These results will allow them not to fight in the first elimination round.

It was a busy day at the Mattamy National Cycling Center in Milton. The men’s omnium qualifications followed those of the women’s sprint. However, Canadian Michael Foley missed out on qualifying and finished 13the of the first wave, while the first 12 positions allowed access to the final.

The men’s keirin is also on the program. Ryan Dodyk, James Hedgcock and Nick Wammes are the three Canadians in the running. Finally, the female Madison will close the evening. However, Canada has no representative at this event as its athletes did not meet the selection criteria.
