Fans who want to see the towering Connor Bedard in action against pro players before the draft will be disappointed: he won’t be participating in the IIHF World Championship.
This was announced by journalist Jeff Marek from Sportsnet on Friday.
Bedard could have joined Samuel Montembeault on the Canada team, but he likely has nothing more to prove before he becomes the first player to hear his name at the next Bettman Circuit auction.
The BC forward did whatever it took to keep his Regina Pats alive in the playoffs, scoring 10 goals and 20 points in just seven games. However, the Saskatoon Blades emerged victorious from this first-round duel in the Junior League West.
Earlier in the regular season, Bedard had widened eyes with 71 goals and 143 points in 57 games.
In 2022, Canada lost 4-3 to Finland in the final of the IIHF World Championship. The surprising Sakari Manninen had played the heroes in overtime.
The next edition of the tournament will take place from May 12 to 28 in Finland and Latvia.
