As they are already preparing to host the 2024 Canadian Championships, Ringuette New Brunswick, Ringuette Dieppe and the Dieppe community will have a good time holding the Eastern Canada Level A Championships this weekend to add a good organizational experience.
No less than 27 formations with 425 athletes and 125 team members from the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island will take part in this four-day event.
Counting the spectators likely to turn up for the various games, more than 2,000 Ringette enthusiasts will be traveling to the largest predominantly French-speaking city outside of Quebec over the coming days.
This Sunday we will crown the champions of the classes M14 AA, M16 A, M19 A and 18+ A in the UNIplex.
“We see this event as preparation for the Nationals that will be held here next year (April 7-13),” reveals Ringuette Dieppe President Marc Gautreau.
“For the Nationals, which includes the National Ringette League finals, we need more than twice as many people to welcome this weekend,” says Marc Gautreau.
Activities begin Thursday at 1pm at the UNIplex with the Skill Contest that will bring together the best elements of each formation.
“They’re doing the same thing at the Nationals and it’s a great opportunity for spectators to spot the tournament’s brightest talent right away,” said Marc Gautreau.
The opening ceremony follows at 3 p.m., still in the UNIplex. The first games start at 5 p.m. in the UNIplex, but also in the Center Arthur-J.-LeBlanc.
The provincial team 1 U14 AA has the opportunity at 5 p.m. to start the ball against Prince Edward Island on the UNI area of the UNIplex. At 5:15 p.m., the Rafales de la Capitale du Québec take on Nova Scotia in Division M19 A at the Arthur-J.-LeBlanc Center, while Ontario 1 takes on the London Lynx in the Co-UNIplex op.
According to Marc Gautreau, the chances of seeing New Brunswick teams climb one of the three podiums in each category are very good. In fact, he believes it’s more than possible for the province to win gold in the U14 AA, U16 A and 18+ A divisions, in addition to top-3 in the U19 A division.
