The Boston Bruins on Sunday became the first team in National Hockey League (NHL) history to reach the 63-season milestone with a 5-3 win over the Flyers in Philadelphia.
The Massachusetts team just surpassed 62 wins in a campaign with the Detroit Red Wings in 1995-1996 and the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2018-2019.
This game was presented on TVA Sports 2.
David Pastrnak took over his team’s offense with a performance of four points, including a hat-trick, which helped him reach the 60-goal milestone this season. Pastrnak became the second player in Bruins history, alongside Phil Esposito, to achieve such a feat in 1974-75.
However, Pastrnak will still have work to do if he is to top Connor McDavid in the Maurice Richard Trophy race. The gifted Edmonton Oilers have 64 goals with two games remaining in the regular season.
Tyler Bertuzzi also contributed his two cents to the game with three assists.
Both teams quickly hit the mark in the first duel.
First, Charlie Coyle threaded the needle for Boston 47 seconds into the game, the Flyers responded 45 seconds later thanks to Wade Allison’s ninth of the campaign.
Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman stopped 26 of the 29 pucks he faced.
His counterpart, Felix Sandstrom, gave way five times in the 27 shots he received in his direction.
Quebec forwards AJ Greer and Nicolas Deslauriers got into a fight in the middle of the final.
With two games left and 131 points under his belt, Jim Montgomery’s men equal the record for most points in a season held by the Montreal Canadiens in 1976-1977 with 132.
