A former CH defender at the heart of a very worrying scene

Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mike Reilly exited the rink on a stretcher during the game of his Providence Bruins, who were visiting the Charlotte Checkers in an American Hockey League (AHL) game on Sunday.

The 29-year-old veteran was trying to get past Riley Bezeau in the third period to get the puck behind his net when he fell heavily and his header hit the gang. He was temporarily unconscious and players on the rink immediately demanded medical attention.

After the game, the Bruins said Reilly felt comfortable and alert. He is in stable condition and adds that he can walk.

The guard has played in 34 AHL games this season, recording seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points. He played ten games with Boston in the National League earlier in the season, wearing the Habs jersey from 2017-2018 to 2019-2020.
