Roda Muse, current Secretary-General of Canada’s Commission for UNESCO, will become Ontario’s next Deputy Minister for Francophone Affairs. She takes office on January 1ah May, replacing Marie-Lison Fougère, a Quebec native who announced her retirement from public service in Ontario in January.
The news was announced March 23 by Cabinet Secretary Michelle E. DiEmanuele. “Roda is a seasoned leader who has increased cultural diversity and promoted economic opportunities for racialized Francophone youth,” the secretary wrote in an internal memo. The duty got a copy.
A native of Djibouti, Roda Muse has an impressive track record in the Franco-Ontarian community. She was specifically responsible for the economic development of the officially spoken minority communities in Canada’s Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development. She was also school trustee and vice-president of the Conseil des écoles publiques de langue française de l’est de l’Ontario.
Roda Muse will not manage the Department of Social and Economic Prospects for Women like Marie-Lison Fougère. Between April 1st and 30th, the position of Deputy Minister for Francophone Affairs will be filled on an interim basis by Alexandra Sutton, currently Deputy Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs. The latter studied at the University of Lyon and is bilingual.
