They are 47 students from the Department of Operational and Administrative Management (GEA) at the IUT of Reunion Island, a department of the University of Reunion Island, who left this Saturday, March 18th on a study trip to the Americas. They are accompanied by four teachers.
Canada and the City of Montreal will be the first step, with planned visits to major schools and major companies…
Then it’s off to New York to continue their educational journey. The main goal of this trip is to open yourself to the world. The various meetings and visits planned, first in a French-speaking environment and then in an English-speaking environment, will allow students to project themselves in the context of internships, training courses or when entering professional life in two far-flung countries of Réunion , with very different lifestyles and cultures, but also great opportunities.
The University Bachelor of Technology at GEA leads students to careers in management, administration, human resources, accounting… so many skills that students can mobilize in France and abroad. It is important for the IUT and its teachers to show them that their development and employment prospects are not limited to the borders of La Réunion.
To illustrate the global expatriation of Reunion Islanders, they have the opportunity to meet Mr. Grégory Larroque, a Saint-Pierrois, Vice President of Economic Affairs at CGI, a Canadian company with a global reach of more than 90,000 employees. IT consulting, system integration, outsourcing and solutions. You will also meet in New York a former student of the IUT’s GEA department, currently in charge of the HR mission of a large French company.
Students also have the opportunity to attend many major Quebec and American schools such as HEC Montreal or the University of Quebec in Montreal. It will thus be an opportunity for them to meet and discuss with North American students the similarities and differences with the French system.
credentials
“The purpose of this trip is above all to show students the richness of discovering other ways of doing business, studying at university and living in general. I often organized these trips at the previous university I worked at and the students always came out “grown up” and then with a strong desire to continue learning and to discover and understand the world around them. » Jean Paul Maujean, teacher at BUT GEA and initiator of the project
“As part of our GEA GOAL, my colleagues and I are organizing a project that is close to our hearts: a study trip to New York and Montreal. The purpose of this trip is to introduce us to aspects of management, economics, finance, accounting and management abroad. We study these fields of activity in our training. It is a real opportunity for us to learn about the organization and functioning of companies abroad. I am convinced that this experience will stand us in good stead. It will enhance our professional career and participate in our personal development. I look forward to interacting with students and professionals on the other side of the world!” Claire Prianon, second year student at BUT GEA
financial partner
In addition to a contribution from the IUT and a personal contribution from the students to finance the stay, many partners have supported this initiative. The students received financial support from the International Relations Department of the University of Réunion and benefited from the support of LADOM to partially fund their trip. In addition, the Le Lion brand provided students with coffee to sell to fund part of their stay.
