If you follow closely the hopes of Canadians this year, it is now obvious that the young Lane Hutson has risen rapidly since the draft and is currently considered by many to be the Canadian’s top pick with Juraj Slafkovsky.
Mathias Brunet spoke about him at BPM Sports
“There was a time early in my career where I got really carried away with hope… I still get carried away, but I’m a lot more wary of experience. But Lane Hutson, I’ll tell you right here… it’s special.
There he is a finalist for the Hober Baker Trophy, he is the only defender out of 10 candidates, so he is considered the best defender in the NCAA ahead of Luke Hughes.
The Hobey-Baker is very very good at the age of 20-21-22, but the finalist at the age of 18 is amazing.
Usually it’s a very good sign that by the time you’re 18 in the NCAA you’re producing at such a rate that you can carry that level of play into the NHL because you’re dominating against guys who are 4-5 years older.
He even went so far as to say that it could be Hutson best player among the CH picks in the 2022 draft ahead of Juraj Slafkovsky.
Wow, ok, we’re taking that statement lightly for now, but it shows how much Brunet believes in Hutson’s ability to become a mainstay in the NHL.
