An 18-year-old student in Canada has won over €30 million. It was his first participation in a lottery.
Beginner’s luck has struck again. At just 18, a Canadian student won the $48 million jackpot in her first lottery entry. She collected her check on Friday February 3rd, becoming the youngest winner of a prize pool of this magnitude in Canada.
Juliette Lamour, who studies in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, explained that she bought her first lottery ticket on the advice of her grandfather. “He said to me, ‘You just turned 18, buy a ticket, try your luck,'” she said.
A particularly well-advised suggestion that the student had some trouble following. Having never gambled like this, she said she once called her father at the store to explain how to proceed.
The drawing took place in early January and changed Juliette’s life forever. The young woman, who did not immediately check her ticket, only knew she was the lucky winner when she heard from colleagues that the winning ticket had been purchased in Sault Ste Marie.
“Money doesn’t define you”
According to data from Guardian, it was even one of her friends who checked her numbers on the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLGC) app for her. The young man, “incredulous”, had “fallen on his knees”.
By her own admission, Juliette “still can’t believe” that she hit the jackpot. The biology student doesn’t have megalomania for the time being: she wants to continue her studies as planned in order to become a doctor.
Then: “When school is over, my family and I will pick a continent and go exploring,” she gushed. I want to discover other countries, study their history and culture, taste their cuisine and listen to their language.”
To keep a cool head, the student wants to take her time deciding what to do with all the money. Knowing that she can count on her father, a financial advisor, for help, she demonstrates great wisdom on the subject: “Money doesn’t define you. It’s the work you do that will define you.
