Emergency landing for a Geneva-Montreal flight
On Sunday, the pilot of an Airbus A330 deviated from Lyon Airport shortly after take-off for safety reasons.
An Airbus plane connecting Geneva to Montreal was diverted to Lyon on Sunday afternoon. At issue are technical difficulties that prompted the pilot to shorten his trip. The aircraft, an Air Canada chartered Airbus A330-343, took off at 1:44 p.m.
Skyguide air traffic control was quickly informed that “after take-off, the pilot had difficulty handling the aircraft. He made the decision to land for safety reasons,” a spokesman told us. Geneva Airport has confirmed the incident. “After a few rounds of waiting, the pilot made a detour towards Lyon,” his communications department explains.
In fact, on the Flightradar24 tracking site, we can observe the device making several loops over the Jura before landing around 2 p.m. after about fifteen minutes of flight, leading to the questioning of several Geneva observers. Problems with the navigation system are mentioned.
When contacted, Air Canada said via email that the flight “was diverted to Lyon as a precautionary measure based on an onboard computer display. It landed safely and our customers are now on their way to their final destination.” Today’s scheduled flight from Geneva departed as scheduled, but with a different aircraft. The plane involved is due to depart from Lyon for Toronto this afternoon.
