Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes had a “much more relaxed day than people think” on Friday, the NHL’s trade close.
That’s what reporter Renaud Lavoie said about “JiC” in the evening.
Hughes made two smaller trades and stuck with them. The reporter then wanted to turn the tap on a rumor that was circulating throughout the day: No, CH center Christian Dvorak was not the envy of other NHL teams.
“Interested in Christian Dvorak, Dvorak’s phone is ringing? Are you kidding me? Nobody called for Christian Dvorak,” he said.
“That’s not possible there,” he continued. It’s not disrespectful to Christian Dvorak, but have you seen his contract? There are still a few years left. If the cap goes up significantly, maybe. But by then, we’ll stop believing in unicorns.”
Follow in hopes
If Hughes was silent on Friday then he may recover better on the next repechage or on the sidelines, Renaud then hinted.
“There it will be,” he said.
According to him, it’s not impossible that Hughes could do his best to get another first-round pick. If veteran Joel Edmundson can stay healthy through the end of the season, he could be the player Hughes traded to make it happen.
