The Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2024 will take the technology to a new level

A new generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be unveiled shortly and will go on sale in Canada later this year as the 2024 model. Today the German manufacturer gives us a first glimpse with the presentation of its interior.

The first thing that catches the eye is the new instrument panel concept with the optional digital panel called “Superscreen”, which combines the central screen behind a large glass surface with another screen on the passenger side. Unlike the electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz with hyperscreen, however, the digital instrumentation in front of the driver remains detached.

For more user-friendly use, the designers have simplified the icons of the MBUX multimedia system, which are similar to those on a smartphone. Likewise, it is no longer necessary to say “Hey Mercedes” to summon the intelligent voice assistant: by activating the “Just Talk” function, a red microphone icon appears on the screen to indicate that the vehicle is ready to take orders.

Incidentally, the displays and the MBUX system are now jointly controlled by a new ultra-powerful computer that can transfer data much faster.

The point of the show

You’ll notice that a camera has been added at the top of the dashboard. When the car is stationary, the driver can film himself and share videos on his social networks or participate in video conferences.

In addition, thanks to a new software compatibility logic, third-party applications such as Webex and Zoom can be installed. The same goes for Tiktok and the Angry Birds game. The ZYNC entertainment platform (optional) allows content streaming.

In addition, new active ambient lighting with optional sound visualization allows the occupants not only to hear music, but also to see it. In fact, the system’s light band varies its illumination, intensity and pulsation according to the rhythm of the song.

But that’s not all: Artificial intelligence will help the occupants to create what Mercedes-Benz calls “routines”, i.e. settings and controls that promote their well-being on board. An example could be: “Turn on heated seats and change ambient lighting to dark amber when cabin temperature falls below 15 degrees”.

Speaking of well-being, the optional ENERGIZING COMFORT system adds a new feature that helps prevent motion sickness. Another may help relieve stress by offering breathing exercises.

Connection with Google

Mercedes-Benz also took the opportunity to announce a long-term strategic partnership with Google, which will, among other things, enable it to be the first automobile manufacturer to build its own navigation system with Google Maps data and functionalities. Everything will be part of the future operating system from Mercedes-Benz (MB.OS).

In a first step, the GPS can display the details of the places you want (opening hours, photos, reviews, etc.), just like a search on Google. Second, the vehicle’s driving assistants will use data from Google Maps to adjust the speed before an intersection, curve or roundabout, for example.
