Does John Gibson need help?

Behind the Anaheim Ducks’ weak defensive brigade, John Gibson is doing what he can. The American is by far the busiest goaltender in the National Hockey League (NHL) in recent years, accumulating performances of 50 saves and more.

Over the past two weeks, Gibson blocked 53 of 59 shots for the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 10 before returning with 51 saves against the Florida Panthers in a 4-3 loss on Monday.

The California team has lost their last six games and the No. 1 goaltender has lost in their last five starts. Gibson does what he can, but the days go by and look the same to the “Ducks”.

He has blocked more than 47 shots eight times since 2017, more than any other goaltender in the NHL. After all, he hasn’t defended the net in more than 60 games in a season for the Ducks, but you have to believe the 29-year-old masked man is a real puck magnet.

In the 2022-23 season, Gibson is 10-23-6 with 4.07 goals against average and a 0.898 percent save rate. Anthony Stolarz (19 games) and Lukas Dostal (9 games) also took over as the season progressed.
