Canadiens forward Mike Hoffman scored quite a goal against the Senators on Tuesday that fans had somewhat forgotten after Rafaël Harvey-Pinard’s exploits in a game that had several other twists and turns.

Invited to discuss the Canadians’ and Senators’ successful power plays in that game, former NHL defenseman and current general manager of the Voltigeurs de Drummondville, Philippe Boucher, lingered on the goal that the CH veteran scored in the second period under the circumstances.

Hoffman, served well by defenseman Mike Matheson, blasted a technically difficult one-timer to the other side of the net. A gesture that only a few players can succeed, Boucher told “JiC” on Wednesday.

“We criticize them, the Canadiens players, we criticize them, (Mike) Matheson and (Mike) Hoffman, and it’s deserved,” he said. But to spontaneously hit a puck and pass it to the other side, a goal like that, it takes a natural scorer, a born scorer.

“I take my hat off to him, it’s an elite goal from a sniper,” he added.

“I think we put him in the window a lot, Hoffman, we let him play big minutes to be able to move him, but at some point someone has to take his place on the power play,” Boucher said.

What is missing in CH

The man who also led the Quebec Remparts a few years ago also threw flowers at the senators’ power play, which looked good on Tuesday night. The formation of the Canadian capital is also based on what CH, in his opinion, is missing: “a quarterback and a guy in front of the net”.
