Decimated by injuries, the Montreal Canadiens went to the 911 call of young Ontario Junior League forward Owen Beck.
Beck, the last draft second-round pick, has been with the Peterborough Petes for a few weeks after being acquired by the Mississauga Steelheads. With his new formation, he scored three points in seven games.
A faceoff specialist known for his versatility and speed, Beck made an excellent first impression during Habs’ training camp in September.
He also recently helped Canada win gold at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
The Habs are without the services of several attackers, including Cole Caufield, Sean Monahan, Joel Armia, Jake Evans, Brendan Gallagher and Juraj Slafkovsky. Christian Dvorak, Kirby Dach and Nick Suzuki were also absent from morning practice on Friday.
Beck could play his first game in the National Hockey League on Saturday when the CH take on the Senators in Ottawa.
