Raising awareness of the realities of Alzheimer’s disease

During Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, the Alzheimer’s Society of Cochrane-Temiskaming is providing people with tools to better understand their health and the warning signs of the disease. This organization also offers caregivers strategies to keep loved ones at home for as long as possible, spokeswoman Sylvie Tremblay explained in an interview.

Ms. Tremblay is the Adult Day Program Manager at the Alzheimer’s Society of the Cochrane-Temiskaming Region. At the fair The northern morning, she mentioned the warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease. These include but are not limited to memory loss, language problems, personality changes, and lack of initiative. As soon as they are noticed, they must be reported.

It is important to consult the Alzheimer’s Society. We are here. You don’t need a doctor to contact us. You can call us yourself and we’ll start helping you with the support you need.says Sylvie Tremblay.

Suddenly learning that a loved one has Alzheimer’s is the beginning of grief.

We help caregivers to love and accept the new person that their loved one has become because it is part of the grief, the frustration, the pain, all that we experience when we lose someone. It’s the same, but the person is still aliveexplains Mrs. Tremblay.

The biggest challenges the Alzheimer’s Society in the Cochrane-Temiskaming area faces on a daily basis are the vast area it must cover to deliver services and the stigma attached to people with Alzheimer’s.
